Hotel Confirmation Number: Where to Find It and What to Check

By TripNoted · Updated October 17, 2026

Your hotel confirmation number is the reference code for your reservation. Look for confirmation number, booking reference, or reservation number in the latest email or account. Then check the guest name, dates, room, payment, and cancellation terms. Labels and number formats vary, so use the label beside the code.

Where to find your hotel confirmation number

Start with the email account and site you used to book.

  1. Search your email. Try the hotel, city, seller, or words such as stay, reservation, and confirmation. Check Spam or Junk.
  2. Open the confirmation. Look near the guest name or under Booking details or Your room. A payment receipt may show a different order number.
  3. Check the official account. Open the hotel or seller app or site. Look for Trips, Bookings, or Stays. If you booked as a guest, search your email.
  4. Check for updates. Open the newest message. Keep it with earlier emails so you can compare any changed dates, room, or status.
  5. Ask the person who booked. The confirmation may be in their email or account.

For a direct Hilton booking, open the app’s Stays area and select Stay details. In a confirmation email, look for Your room information. Hilton’s reservation help explains these paths. Other hotels and sellers have their own lookup pages.

Hotel number or travel seller number?

Use the number for the company you are contacting. A hotel may have its own reference, while a travel seller may use an itinerary or order number. Some bookings show one code; others show more than one. Check the label and company name. If a hotel cannot find a third-party booking, ask the seller for the hotel reference and help checking the stay.

Booking.com’s partner-offer help lists a separate PIN for some support requests. The PIN is different from the confirmation number. A room number, flight number, or payment reference is also a different code.

Check these details before you arrive

  • Guest name: Check that the main guest is the person who will check in.
  • Dates and times: Check dates and local check-in and check-out times. Contact the property if you will arrive outside its hours.
  • Property and room: Match the address, room type, bed type, and guest count. A request is not a confirmation.
  • Payment: Check currency, amount paid, amount due, taxes, and any next payment date.
  • Cancellation: Note the deadline, local time, and any fee after it.
  • References: Save both numbers if the email lists a hotel and seller code.

If the number is missing or does not work

  1. Search the email used to book. Check Spam or Junk, archive, and Trash.
  2. Sign in to the hotel or seller account. Check you have the right account and open the current stay.
  3. Check the code label. Hotel, seller, PIN, room, and payment numbers have different uses.
  4. If the hotel cannot find a third-party stay, contact the seller with the guest name, dates, hotel, and seller reference. For a direct booking, use the hotel’s official site.
  5. If the email is gone, ask the booking company to resend it. Booking.com lists its Bookings section and Help Center as options.

Keep your confirmation private. Use the company’s official app, website, or contact details in the booking. Do not post the number, PIN, guest name, or full confirmation online.

Hotel confirmation questions

Is a hotel confirmation number always a number?

No. Hotels and travel sellers can use numbers, letters, or both. Use the label and the company name beside the code. Do not choose a code only because it is the shortest one.

Is the hotel confirmation number the same as the room number?

No. The confirmation number helps find the booking. The room number identifies a room at the property and may not be in the confirmation. If you need to know a room assignment or a special request, ask the property.

Does a confirmation number guarantee check-in or an early arrival?

The number helps the hotel or seller find your booking. It does not confirm an early check-in, late arrival, or a special request. Contact the property about arrival details and check the current booking with the company that took the reservation.

Keep the confirmation with your travel itinerary. You can also find your flight confirmation email for the same trip.
